BENICIA , Calif. – May 13, 2008 – InterHealth Nutraceuticals’ ChromeMate® was found to reduce blood pressure through its effects on the renin-angiotensin system (RAS), a hormone system that regulates long-term blood pressure. A team of researchers, led by Dr. Nicholas Perricone, found that ChromeMate® lowered sugar-induced blood pressure, at least in part, by decreasing the activity of the RAS system.

The study, recently published in the Journal of Inorganic Biochemistry, first confirmed that disturbances in the RAS were significant factors in the elevation of sugar-induced blood pressure, as measured by increased levels of the hormone angiotensin-2. Animals that ingested ChromeMate® experienced a significant decrease in angiotensin-2 levels and blood pressure, thus demonstrating one way that ChromeMate® works to promote healthy blood pressure levels. The study is available through PubMed (PMID: 18374418).

“This research provides important insight into how ChromeMate® works to reduce blood pressure, a significant indicator of cardiovascular health,” stated InterHealth CEO Paul Dijkstra. “These findings are particularly important to those with diabetes since cardiovascular disease is so closely associated with diabetes. ChromeMate® has also been shown to be highly effective in helping to maintain healthy blood sugar levels and body weight, so it represents a triple benefit in the fight against diabetes.”

The study was conducted at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine (East Lansing, MI) by Nicholas Perricone, MD, FACN, Harry Preuss, MD, MACN, CNS, Debasis Bagchi, Ph.D., and Bobby Echard, M.T. Dr. Perricone is a recipient of the Eli Whitney Award for his significant contributions to science, invention and technology. Dr. Preuss, a professor of medicine and pathology at Georgetown University Medical Center (Washington, DC), is known for his significant body of research related to weight loss and insulin control. Dr. Preuss is also author of the best-selling book, The Natural Fat-Loss Pharmacy, and respected researcher and known authority in the field of anti-aging research.

Clinical research has also shown that ChromeMate® reduces cholesterol levels and total cholesterol:HDL (“good”) cholesterol ratios. Animal research suggests that ChromeMate® alleviates injury to the heart muscle, lowers blood pressure, decreases lipid peroxidation and oxidative and DNA damage.
