BENICIA, Calif., April 27, 2001 - A new report confirms the safety of ChromeMate®, InterHealth Nutraceuticals' patented oxygen-coordinated niacin-bound chromium ingredient. The report was presented at the 40th annual meeting of the Society of Toxicology on March 29, 2001 by researchers from Creighton University Health Center (Omaha, NE) and Georgetown University Medical Center (Washington, D.C.).
Recently, one study called into question the ability of one chromium supplement to cause chromosomal damage, but the same study showed that ChromeMate® did not. In another study, researchers found that human subjects given high doses of ChromeMate® over a six-week period experienced absolutely no adverse effects.
"Although never called into question, this review confirms the safety of ChromeMate®," stated Dr. Debasis Bagchi of Creighton University. "It can play a vital role in supplying biologically active chromium necessary for good health and it will not cause genetic damage. ChromeMate® is a unique, patented form of niacin-bound chromium called chromium nicotinate or polynicotinate."
In addition to the positive safety review on ChromeMate®, the patented ingredient has been shown to produce a number of beneficial effects in glucose and lipid metabolism. It has been found to significantly reduce blood pressure in essential (age-related) hypertensive rats as well as diabetic hypertensive rats, and one human study showed that ChromeMate® lowered serum cholesterol by an average of 14 percent and improved total cholesterol to HDL ratios by 17 percent. In weight loss studies, ChromeMate® was shown to increase fat loss while sparing lean tissue, and in obese women, ChromeMate® plus exercise resulted in significant weight loss, while exercise plus chromium picolinate did not.
As always, it is important to note that because ChromeMate® was the product used in these studies, the results cannot be applied to other chromium supplements. To be assured of getting the demonstrated benefit, consumers should look for the ChromeMate® brand.
