BENICIA, Calif., April 14, 2005 – A new study on Protykin®, InterHealth Nutraceuticals’ standardized Polygonum cuspidatum extract, has demonstrated its effectiveness as a dietary supplement ingredient for use in providing enhanced cardiovascular and heart-related benefits.
The study, which was presented at the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) Experimental Biology 2005 conference in San Diego on April 2-6, was conducted at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine ( Farmington, CT) .
“This study, funded by the National Institute of Health (1 R43 HL75665-01), provides additional support for our previous research demonstrating that oral supplementation with Protykin provides significant cardio protection through a novel mechanism known as ischemic preconditioning,” stated Professor Dipak K. Das, Ph.D., Director Cardiovascular Division, Department of Surgery, University of Connecticut School of Medicine.
Protykin is a standardized, 200:1 Polygonum cuspidatum extract, a powerful antioxidant and cardioprotectant that contains 50 percent phytoestrogens (natural plant estrogens). As a phytoestrogen, Protykin helps maintain normal estrogen activity, reduce hot flashes, balance mood swings and promote healthy bone density. Derived from the root of Polygonum cuspidatum, an herb used in traditional Chinese medicine, Protykin contains more than 1,000-times the amount of the same antioxidant ingredient in red wine that is believed to promote cardiovascular health and reduce the effects of premature aging.
