BENICIA, Calif., January 28, 2003 - InterHealth Nutraceuticals announces the introduction of OptiBerry®, a standardized, multiple-berry anthocyanin extract formulated for optimum antioxidant and anti-angiogenic potency. OptiBerry is a unique, proprietary (patent-pending) blend of six berries known for their health-promoting properties.
Anthocyanins are common components of fruits and vegetables, particularly berries, which provide color and serve as natural antioxidants. Health benefits that are attributable to anthocyanins include antioxidant protection and maintenance of DNA integrity. They also serve as anti-inflammatory and antimutagenic agents, and provide cardioprotection by maintaining vascular permeability.
OptiBerry was developed by InterHealth after evaluating key functional parameters of numerous berry extracts and exploring more than 20 combinations of individual berry extracts. OptiBerry was found to be the most potent combination of all berry extract blends tested. OptiBerry promotes brain function and mental clarity, healthy vision, cardiovascular health, and healthy skin. It also helps prevent the effects of premature aging and promotes urinary tract health, while providing blood sugar support. Its anti-angiogenic activity helps reduce unwanted growth of blood vessels, which may lead to varicose veins and tumor formation.
According to Debasis Bagchi, Ph.D., a leading authority on antioxidants and InterHealth's vice president of research and development, "The OptiBerry formula was developed to provide superior safety and bioavailability, while maximizing antioxidant and anti-angiogenic activity."
Supported by published research in peer-reviewed journals, OptiBerry is another example of InterHealth's research-driven approach to product development. OptiBerry has demonstrated superior anti-angiogenic activity to grape seed extract and has shown no cytotoxicity.
"InterHealth is proud to play a leadership role in supporting research at leading universities on its products to support its marketing claims and provide regulatory substantiation," stated InterHealth President and CEO William "Skip" Seroy. "Since 1997, more than 100 research presentations, publications and abstracts on InterHealth's products have been presented at leading scientific conferences or published in peer-reviewed, scientific journals."
InterHealth researches, develops, manufactures, markets and distributes specialty nutritional ingredients, which are sold worldwide to manufacturers of dietary supplements and nutraceutical food and beverage products. In addition to OptiBerry®, InterHealth is the maker of CitriMax®, ChromeMate®, UC-II™, Protykin® and L-OptiZinc®.
