CHROMEMATE® IS GRANTED EUROPEAN PATENT

BENICIA, Calif., November 5, 2001 – InterHealth Nutraceuticals has been granted a European patent for ChromeMate®, the company’s oxygen-coordinated, niacin-bound chromium complex. This will allow manufacturers to increase distribution to European markets with additional confidence. The patent will also protect European consumers, who will be able to buy ChromeMate secure in the knowledge that they are purchasing the authentic product, which is backed by extensive scientific research.

The patent (No. 0440626) strengthens the proprietary aspects of this highly efficacious and safe niacin-bound chromium compound. InterHealth will aggressively enforce this patent in all European markets just as it does its U.S. patents (Nos. 4,923,855, 4,954,492 and 5,194,615).

“This patent protection will help ensure that inferior and ineffective ‘knock-off’ products don’t find their way to European retail shelves,” stated Gary Troxel, InterHealth’s Executive Vice President in charge of sales. “It protects both consumers and distributors of ChromeMate.”

ChromeMate, InterHealth Nutraceuticals’ novel IH818 chromium complex, closely mimics the biologically active form of chromium found in nature called Glucose Tolerance Factor. Independent university studies have shown that ChromeMate is safer, more effective and, in animal models used to evaluate bioavailability in humans, more bioavailable than chromium picolinate,* and more than 18-times more potent than other forms of niacin-bound chromium. Scientific studies have demonstrated ChromeMate’s benefits relative to diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity and Syndrome X (insulin resistance).
